Functional difference:
Inverter is a power conversion device that converts DC power into AC power. It is mainly composed of electronic components such as transistors and diodes. When DC power is input to the inverter, the inverter changes the form and size of DC power through the switch control of electronic components, thereby converting the input DC power into the required AC power.
Variable frequency drive(VFD) is a device for motor speed regulation. It can change the frequency of power supply from the power grid, control the speed of the motor, and realize the speed regulation function. The frequency converter is mainly composed of rectifier, filter, inverter, driver, protection and control parts.
Application field difference:
The main application fields of inverters are solar power generation, wind power generation, UPS power supply and other fields. The main application fields of variable frequency drive are motor drives, such as elevators, water pumps, fans, cooling towers, automobile production lines, etc., as well as large equipment control supporting. According to the motor power setting, the minimum power of the commonly used vfd can be 0.2kw, and the larger one is 500KW. VFD of several watts and thousands of kilowatts can also be customized.
